Namibia: On the road

Rasta, Zebra, Freedom, Sersant, Hans, Duiwel, Vaalie and Ou Blou are not the monikers of the Griqua rugby team’s forwards, but the names of donkeys.

You see donkey carts everywhere in Namibia. If you have time, stop and have a chat, or perhaps share your water and apples with the donkey cart owners – they’ll be able to tell you more about the surroundings than any brochure can.

And if you’re only driving past, slow down so you don’t kick up a lot of dust, because donkey carts don’t have air conditioning.
