Admire Joburg’s gardens
Just over 120 years ago Joburg was open grassland and today it claims to be the biggest man-made forest in the world.
Find out how this happened from the organisation Gardens of the Golden City. Most weekends there are gardens on show and entry is R10 (children free). Proceeds go to charity. For instance, you can go and see a five-hectare garden in North Riding, home to an olive tree that is believed to be 500 years old.
