Stand on the roof of Africa
When you step into the lift at the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, you can press one of three buttons:
S Service Level
-1 Shopping Level
50 Top of Africa
Press the “Top of Africa” button and you shoot up so fast that your ears pop. At 222 m, the Carlton is the tallest building in Africa, and from here you have an uninterrupted view of the city centre, mine dumps, highways and Joburg suburbs.
Where? Turn in at the underground parking garage in Smal Street. The lift to the top floor is on level 100 next to the Standard Bank. Ask a security guard to walk with you if you feel unsafe.
Cost: R8 for adults, R4 for children under 12. (Note: prices accurate in January 2009)
