Places I still want to see
1. Mozambique
The unspoiled quality of the country is definitely an attraction. So are the prawns. And the ocean. Always the ocean.
2. Kruger National Park
I have honestly never been there. Scandalous, I know. This will have to be rectified as soon as possible.
3. Italy
I have this inherent need to drive a car (preferably a Fiat) from the south to the north of the country. I want to eat great food, using my fingers. With no specific plan, I want to explore the countryside. Eventually I want to arrive at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, the home of my favourite soccer team, AC Milan.
4. Teahupo’o
This is a world-renowned surfing spot in Tahiti nearby the village of the same name, and is also known as Chopes. This apparently means “broken skulls” in Tahitian. I don’t know if I’d see my way to riding the waves, but it must be amazing just to see it.
5. A Tom Waits concert
I know this isn’t strictly speaking a place, but Tom Waits is possible one of the best lyrics writers of our time. His music takes you to a place outside yourself. It sounds amazing through headphones. Just imagine how it’d sound if he sat behind the piano and sang with that rough, sandpaper-voice: “Anywhere I lay my head/ Well I gonna call my home.”
