Macaroons


You can use any type of breakfast cereal or muesli. If you can’t find berries, use sultanas, glazed cherries or other chopped fruit.

For 50 macaroons
Preparation 20 minutes
Baking time 10 minutes

Macaroons make wonderful padkos. Measure out the ingredients and let the kids bake the macaroons themselves.

You need

  • 3 cups All Bran Flakes
  • 2 cups Milo breakfast cereal
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • ½ cup ground almonds
  • ½ cup soft brown sugar
  • ½ cup bilberries
  • 2 Flake chocolate bars, crumbed
  • 1 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, beaten
Here's how:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 ºC. Line two big baking sheets with baking paper and grease lightly with cooking spray like Spray & Cook or butter.
  2. Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl – stir well with a wooden spoon.
  3. Use a tablespoon of batter to make a small ball that you flatten with your hand. Place the balls on the paper. Continue until all the batter has been used and bake the macaroons for 10 minutes.
  4. Take the macaroons out of the oven and let them cool before you put them in a cake tin.
