Shop at a farmers' market
When you visit a farmers’ market it’s almost like going on holiday. You get in the car when the sky is still purple and gradually wake up as you drive.
It’s 5.45 am at the Pioneer Museum in Silverton. An elderly couple walk past – their shopping already in the bag. Inside, many visitors are biting into vetkoek. “I just want to welcome all the Blue Bulls supporters,” says the announcer over the loudspeakers.
I leave with avocado oil, pumpkin pips, Dutch cheese, champion sausage and 10 Barberton daisies for my mother – all for just R100.

Go! says: Find out where your nearest farmers’ market is and rise with the chickens. Where else can you buy two heads of lettuce for only R4?

It would be quite helpful if you could perhaps find out where some farmers markets are FOR us. I'm in Johannesburg. I work all day so have no time to investigate ...... Ta. I mean real farmers' markets, not expensive junk like Bryanston Organic market.....
