Sonja Jordt's chicken recipe could feed an army and it's quick and easy too.


This chicken is delicious with chips or with couscous flavoured with roast butternut and crumbed feta. It’s an ideal supper when you’re cooking for a crowd of friends.


You need

(for 8–10 people)
• 6 chicken thighs
• 6 chicken drumsticks
• salt and freshly ground pepper

FOR THE SAUCE

• 2 teaspoons butter
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 3 fat cloves of garlic, chopped
• 1 cup Bulgarian yoghurt
• 1 cup mayonnaise
• ¼ cup soft brown sugar
• 1⁄3 cup tomato sauce
• 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Here’s how
1. Get some heat. Preheat the oven to 180 ºC.
2. Lay it on thick. Put the chicken pieces in an oven dish and season all over with salt and black pepper.
3. Brew the sauce. Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the onion until soft. Add the garlic and fry for another minute or two. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the onion to cool.
4. Give it flavour… Mix the yoghurt, mayonnaise, brown sugar, tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and add the mixture to the fried onion (if you add it when the onion is hot the sauce might curdle). Pour the sauce over the chicken pieces.
5. Into the oven. Cover the oven dish with foil and bake for about an hour until the chicken is tender
and cooked through.

Go! says: To save on extra dishes, wait until the onion in the pot has cooled before mixing in the sauce ingredients.
