For value-for-money protection from the winter chill, this Woolies fleece jacket is a winner. It’s available in a men’s and women’s cut, and in a variety of colours. Fleece works much like a woollen jersey: The fibres trap thousands of tiny pockets of air, forming an insulating barrier against the cold.
A more expensive fleece jacket might have a waterproof coating or extra pockets, but essentially all fleeces do the same thing. This one is perfectly adequate for general winter wear, although for a hike in the Drakensberg you’ll want something a bit thicker.
