No-nonsense hold-all backpack
After testing this big backpack for two months, we’re more than happy to recommend it.
Why? This pack is really durable; it’s survived some tough hiking conditions. Bushtec has used a new fabric called “rhombus ripstop”, which is incredibly tough and much stronger than the material found on most other packs.
The pack fits comfortably (Bushtec says it was developed with input from orthopaedic
and neurosurgeons). The result is shoulder straps and a hip belt that support, and padding in just the right places.
Any reservations? The Hike 70L isn’t the slickest design I’ve seen and it lacks extra features such as a built-in rain cover. But the basics are there – two main compartments, plus two spacious side pockets.
Price: R410.

Go! says: If you’re in the market for a multi-day backpack, this one is excellent value for money.
