I’m a big fan of Wet Wipes. They’ve saved the day when I haven’t had access to a tap or stream, allowing me to clean my hands after a toilet stop or greasy lunch, or just wipe the sweat off my face after a long day on the trail. The only two complaints I have about them is that the plastic dispenser takes up quite a bit of space in my pack, and they dry out over time.

Not these new Soak It wipes. Each towel is the size of a wine gum in its dry state, but splash some water over it and it magically opens out to the dimensions of a regular face cloth. I found they work just as well as Wet Wipes, the only noticeable difference being they don’t have that same fresh, perfumed smell. They come in packets of 10, but you can decant one or two if you want
to travel really lightly (they’re reusable too).

Price: About R12 for a packet of 10 (Note: Prices accurate in May 2010)
