Pick a camping stove
Pick your gas. The old-fashioned hiking stove with a mini 220 g-cylinder is a winner for an easy three-day hike. But if you’re planning to traverse the Drakensberg, invest in something that uses liquid gas (most use benzine). They’re studier and give off more heat.
Eye on the pot. Make sure that your pot sits firmly on the stove top. A billy can full of noodles landing on top of your hiking partner’s sleeping bag will cause tension.
Stand and deliver! If the stove is wonky then you’ll be eating dust-noodles. Some stoves come with special stands.
When do we eat? A stove’s speed is measured by how long it takes to boil a litre of water. The Ferrari’s do it in three minutes.
Be still, wind! A stove with a built-in wind shield will work well in gusty weather. You can also manufacture a shelter using rocks if needs be.

I have used a home made stove that runs on methylated spirits. Boils 500ml in about 4 minutes. No moving parts and fuel is cheap ( so is the stove)
