Hiking the Kosi Bay Trail is vintage slackpacking

Kosi Bay 101

How does it work?
We hiked for two days and slept over for three. You can also hike three days and sleep four. The trail is tailored to every group’s needs; arrange it with Willie Labuschagne, who manages the Kosi Bay Trail

Should I take an anti-malarial prophylactic? This is advisable, especially in the rainy season (between February and May).

When is the best time to go? Turtle season is from November to February, but some prefer hiking in winter (April to August), when it’s cooler.

What about sundowners? A limited quantity of box wine and beer is supplied, but you’re welcome to take your own.

How much? R1 660 for four days, which includes accommodation, food and the transport of your baggage. The daily activities cost extra.

Prices per person are as follows: Kayak trip – R100, turtle tour – R200, boat trip – R250 and horse riding – R250. The fee for the guides is R300 per person for the entire trail.
