One of the best ways to experience the Kruger National Park at its wildest is to go on the Olifants Backpack Trail near Phalaborwa Gate! The trail can take a maximum of eight guests, who carry their own tents, clothes, food and water for three nights and four days. The roughly 47km hike winds along the magnificent Olifants River.
Two armed guides lead the way and choose the places where you will sleep at night. Don't expect to see the Big 5 on this hike, but you can look forward to lots of hippos, crocs and elephants. Birding is also fantastic and you even have a change to see the rare and elusive Pel's fishing owl!
