Mountain biking

Olifants and Balule are the only two camps in the Kruger National Park that offer mountain biking. Two guides will pick you up at either of the two camps and take you on a game drive in an open vehicle to a spot next to the Olifants River. From here, you continue on mountain bikes. You'll ride along an old management road next to the river – mostly in mopaneveld –  and cross a number of small streams. The bicycles are surprisingly quiet!

Your guide is a skilled cyclist and has a rifle for your protection.

If you don't like riding in mud, don't do this activity shortly after the rains.

During the ride, you will from time to time stop next to the Olifants River and even walk down onto the sand to watch hippos, crocs and birds. Don't expect to see much on the ride, though. Although predators, elephants and other large animals are sometimes seen, the aim of this activity is to give you the opportunity to see the bush in a way that's different from driving or walking. You don't have to be a very good cyclist to partake in the activity, but you will enjoy it most if all the members of the group are more or less at the same level.

Looking for hippos and crocs next to the Olifants River.
