One of my favourite activities in the Kruger National Park is the Thulamela Archaeological tour from Punda Maria. This is a half-day trip that takes you up Thulamela hill near Pafuri, where you spend the morning learning about and exploring the incredible Thulamela ruins. This is not a rushed activity. The knowledgeable guides take their time answering your questions, and tell incredible stories about the area's history and their own experiences in the area.
Other plus points are the breathtaking views and scenery, along with the long game drive to Thulamela which lasts about an hour.

Guides will take you through the mazes of rock wall ruins and show you some artefacts that were found at Thulamela. This really is a very personal tour that takes you on a walk through history. You find yourself imagining what it must have been like living on the incredible hill…

After the visit to the hilltop, you are driven to Pafuri picnic site where you can stretch your legs, have a snack and watch some birds… It really is a must-do activity for a very reasonable price! Bookings can be made directly through SANParks or at Punda Maria camp.
