Buffalo numbers will vary from year to year, but on average the Kruger National Park is home to about 26 000 of these massive bovines. They can be found in large herds, numbering over a thousand, but you may also come across single old bulls that have been kicked out of the herd. Buffaloes are bulk feeders and prefer tall grass in relatively open areas. They are found throughout the park, but we have selected five roads that we believe will give you the best chance of seeing buffaloes. Remember, they love riverbeds and are often found drinking at rivers, taking mud baths or just resting in a pool of water.
