There are many dams in the Kruger National Park, varying from small pans to huge dams. Dams are fed by rain water and are therefore generally full at the end of summer (Jan/Feb). They attract large numbers of game and birds. Hippos and crocodiles often live in dams, while certain species – like waterbuck – never wander far from them. Water birds move from dam to dam and are often near the water's edge.
We have chosen our five favourite dams in the Kruger National Park.
