A hide is a wooden man-made structure from where you can watch animals, generally at a dam or waterhole. There are quite a few hides in the Kruger National Park, varying from very small ones that only accommodate 6-8 people at a time, to large ones which could easily accommodate 15 or more people.
The golden rule at hides is to be quiet, otherwise you might scare away drinking animals or feeding birds, or even prevent them from coming. Take along a pair of good binoculars, a few snacks and field guides. Some hides do have toilet facilities, but most don't.
Sable and Shipandani Hides near Phalaborwa Gate and Mopani respectively are the only two overnight hides in the park. You and your group can book it for one night.
Here are our five favourite hides in the Kruger National Park.
