Many people visit the Kruger National Park not only looking for the Big 5, but also rare antelopes like sable, tsessebe, roan, eland, nyala and Sharpe's grysbok. They are called "rare" because they occur in such low numbers in the park. Some, like the diminutive suni, are very shy. Rare antelopes occur in very specific habitats. Because these unique habitats only cover small, localised patches of the park, they can only sustain relatively few of these antelope species. It does, however, make it easier to find them…
Some camps, like Pretoriuskop and Shingwedzi, have rare antelope sightings books at reception. You can record any sightings of rare antelopes here, or read up to see where certain species have recently been spotted, or where they are often found.
