(Gravel road)

The eastern section of the S26 Bume road leaves you searching for words to describe its scenic beauty, as can be seen in the image above. The vegetation between the S25 and the S102 turnoff to Mpondo Dam is stunning, and even the western section is scenic. My absolute favourite stretch on this road is the first few kilometres on the south-eastern tip that run along the Bume River. Here, the road winds through spectacular scenery, leaving you feeling like an explorer in wild Africa. The Bume road is great for white rhino sightings and has also been known to produce sightings of wild dogs.

If you plan to drive from Crocodile Bridge to Skukuza via either the S26 or H5 gravel roads, I suggest taking the S26 Bume road. It is a smaller, more scenic road with a better road surface than the H5.
Special sightings on the S26 may include serval and African harrier-hawk.
