SA filmmaker attempts to climb K2
Sean Wisedale is the first South African to climb and film the Seven Summits. More recently the cameraman has guided groups to the summits of Mount Aconcagua, Mount Kenya and has done nine summits of ‘Kili’.
Now he’s taken on a new challenge – what many consider the most difficult climb in the world. K2 is regarded as the toughest mountain of all to climb because of the technical demands at altitude, albeit the second highest mountain on earth at 8611 m.
He is currently part of an international team of 16 climbers led by Fabrizio Zangrilli and organised by Field touring Alpine. Climbing via the Cesen route, this unprecedented, self-supported expedition isn’t relying on guides and Sherpas to assist in fixing lines and hauling loads.
The latest from the team is that they’ll be doing ‘up and down’ climbing, fixing ropes, dropping loads, and acclimatizing for the next couple of weeks until the summit attempt towards the end of July or beginning of August – all depending on the weather.
