Butterfly weekend
If you are a butterfly lover, this is an event not to be missed! Be a part of South Africa's very first Butterfly Census Weekend (BCW). By collecting useful data we will be able to monitor our butterflies over time and help us understand the impact of climate change.
The BCW forms part of the Southern African Butterfly Conservation Assessment project, a joint project of the Animal Demography Unit (University of Cape Town), the Lepidopterists’ Society of Africa and the South African National Biodiversity Institute.
All butterfly species observed by teams (including school teams) over the weekend at any specific locality are noted and counted. Anyone can join in the fun; there will be beginner and expert categories.
You will need to register your team and locality. Registration is free, and will open online by the end of February.
