Visitors flock to Augrabies
Augrabies Falls National Park in the Northern Cape attracted huge numbers of visitors this past week to witness the iconic waterfall live up to its name, “Place of Great Noise”.
By Monday, the Orange was rushing down the gorge at a rate of more than 2 800 m3/sec. The previous “big year” was 2006, when the flow rate was 1 000 m3/sec less than this.
The record flow rate of 1988 still stands, however, when the biggest volume of water ever measured tumbled down the 56 m-high waterfall.
On Sunday, the park was filled to capacity with about 2 500 visitors.
Park manager Steven Smith says they organised extra shuttle buses to accommodate everyone.
It’s expected that the force of the flood will start to dissipate by Wednesday.

The music is really horrible - or is it supposed to be the "sound of great noise"? - the sound of the water would have been what I expected (and hoped for) to hear :-( As for the video, ja well, I guess it is better than nothing... but not really much to write home about... tsk! I was hoping for something better
