We bid farewell to a friend

Carlie Norval, respected photographer and beloved friend of go! magazine, suffered a fatal stroke on Friday morning 1 June 2012. He will be greatly missed here at go! and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

“The go! family lost a good friend this weekend. Carlie Norval was one of our regular freelance photographers, a colleague and our Man in the Eastern Cape. Going through his photo archives this morning was a sad, sad thing. Were these his favourites? I never got the chance to ask. What they show is that he knew a thing or two about light. “Carlie and I had just returned from a trip to the Wild Coast. It feels unreal to refer to him in the past tense. He was a brilliant photographer, very serious about his work and a special person: friendly, kind, witty and always accommodating. He loved his Black Labels and they loved him!
