Heavy snow, heavy traffic...

Monique Russell visited Ceres…along with a swarm of other snow seekers.

“The best thing about all the people is that if you don’t know where the snow is, you just follow them. The worst thing is that you have to wait in line once you get there.”

“I arrived in Ceres at 08:00 in the morning, but the traffic was already quite heavy when I reached the white mountains”, says Monique. This photo was taken about 20 km outside Ceres, in the direction of the Prince Alfred Hamlet.

No, it’s not the Alps.

There were only a few patches of snow here, but it was still enough for a snowball fight.

But if you don’t have a 4x4, your options are limited, says Monique. “Where I could go in with my little Corsa, I had to pay R50 to enter.” No lack of entrepreneurship there.

“The snow may look thin on the ground, but it’s still very, very cold.”

Remember your camera (and an extra memory card!) if you decide to go. It’s stunning.

Although most of the snow had already melted, it did not break down the spirit of building a snowman.
