The view from Candlewood Camp is beautiful. The Bankspruit runs past the camp and you can follow its course with your eyes as it drops away into a gorge.

We did this trail over Easter, and I rate it on a par (if not more difficult!) with the Otter. Stunning scenery tho. 'The Stables' though were a dreadful let-down, dirty, full of mice, disgusting mattresses. On our last night, the kitchen cooker ran out of gas, and the 'train' could have a few more utensils! But overall, beautiful scenery and waterfalls, but boy did we climb.... up and down... and then up again! Our first night (which I think is usually night 2) was the best - the log cabins, donkey (boiler and animals!) were excellent and our hosts (I have forgotten his name!) was excellent. Robyn Gwilt
The five-day Num-Num Hiking Trail on the Mpumalanga escarpment is only 38 km long. You cover no more than 8 km a day, but it’s no walk in the park.
The designers of the Num-Num Trail made the most of the terrain in what is a relatively small area between Machadodorp and Badplaas. The trail goes over steep hills, across mountain grassland and through riverine forests in gorges.
The overnight facilities are excellent. Each camp has hot water and a cosy braai area where you can relax and recount the day’s trials on the trail.
