Cableway celebrates its 80th birthday
This famous Cape Town tourist attraction has ferried more than 19 million visitors to the top of Table Mountain since opening to the public in 1929. Once on top, visitors can savour the remarkable 360-degree aerial view of the Mother City and visit the Table Mountain Café, re-launched in August last year.
The original carriages were built with only a tin roof and wooden sides, but the current cable car is imported from Switzerland and travels at a brisk speed of ten metres per second.
The Cableway is one of the city’s most renowned landmarks and has carried some of the world’s biggest stars including Queen Elizabeth II, Jude Law, Forest Whittaker, Paris Hilton and Oprah Winfrey.
Standard tickets for adults are R160 per person return and children under 18 years R80 return.
