Never mind gorilas in the mist - this is ostriches in the snow!

Even the Warm Bokkeveld is cold this time of year!
So cold, says Stephanie Geldenhuys from the farm Langfontain 27 km outside of Ceres, that she’ll rather herd her ostriches to get them under a roof when it looks like snow.
But before Tinktinke and his (nameless) white friend could be brought out of the cold on Wednesday August 19th, Stephanie’s daughter, Danielle, took a few beautiful photos of the birds against the snowy background.
“An ostrich is a bit like a chicken, in that if they get cold or wet, they can easily get a lung infection,” says Stephanie.
With the temperature on Wednesday a degree or two above freezing, the snow fell fairly heavily on the Geldenhuys’ farm.
About the eerie blue eye of the white ostrich, which is no albino, Stephanie says that it’s a “genetic thing,” which comes from other ostriches in the Tankwa Karoo.
“But they (the white chicks) usually die - the jackals see them too easily,” adds Stephanie.
That’s why she took this female under her wing.
