A rare sight near Epupa Falls

zoommore

These two young elephant bulls were captured on camera a few kilometres upstream of Epupa Falls in Kaokoland, Namibia. What’s interesting about the photos is that elephants are very rare in this area.
It’s a sign that conservation efforts are paying off, says Koos Verwey of Kaokohimba Safaris, which is based at Camp Syncro. “The elephants are breeding and need more space. Herds often send out small patrols to scout for new areas to settle in and to check on security, water and food.
“What is a bit problematic,” Koos says, “is that people up here are not familiar with elephants, and their gardens attract the animals. An accident and a dead elephant will inevitably occur.”
