This is one of those songs that inspires tranquillity and brushes away the everyday irritations. Pull over, quieten down and take in the landscape from right there.
2. “Viva la Vida” (Coldplay)
The perfect song for when you are attempting a long stretch of road. The strings, the drums, the voices – ideal for when the sun peeks its head over the horizon on a day that can’t not be perfect. Better than soft serve!
3. “Beautiful in Beaufort-Wes” (Theuns Jordaan)
A road trip inside yourself. Just the thing for the road between Laingsburg and Colesburg. Because you must drive through Beaufort-West and then the Karoo is even more beautiful.
4. “Goodbye” (Emmylou Harris)
Wow. Beautiful. The further you go, the less home and work’s problems seem to matter. You must listen to this when you’ve arrived at your stopover point for the day, preferably with your toes in the sand, the sun setting and a fire burning.
5. “Soundtracks and Comebacks” (Goldfish)
Listen to this when that picnic lunch starts making your eyelids heavy. Better holiday-mood music you’ll struggle to find. Proudly South African!
